Re your questions. I don't think that Black could prevent the pawn from queening but any mate from this would take longer than 4 moves.  And of course there is always potential for stalemate if you aren't careful.

very tough and a little confusing. great mate. i probably would have given up here anyway. is there any way to stop white from queening or black to stalemate??
