An Average Game

Submitted by Smiley16 on Wed, 01/09/2008 at 3:21pm.

Being a beginner, I thought this was an excellent game. my opponent made some mistakes, and I capitalized;(i love knights) But I would also like to improve from this. readers, can I have any input?

I'd say your opponent is roughy rated 550 USCF.  So I guess we know you're somewhere between 551 and 2700, right?

I agree. There's no way we can judge the strength of your chess abilities when you play people who blunder away all their pieces. Post a game where you lost, or was at least close, and then it'll be much easier to help you.

"Anonymous" is a pathetic chess player. No offense, but you need to play someone harder. By the way, the goal in chess is to checkmate your opponent- not take evry piece. Good Game though!

I think this qualifies as patzer killing. Used to enjoy it when a beginner, now it just bores me to death

I agree with chess_all_the_way. You chomped on his pieces very well, but he had a developed pawn structure, which led you to chase him for a few moves before mate. Remember that the goal isn't to wipe the board clean, it's to checkmate your opponent - if you already have a major piece advantage, don't waste any time. Capitalize on it immediately, and start attacking your opponent's king.

Wow. Whats up with the anonymous guy dropping his queen? Not to mention everything else. But as for your game, I think you did pretty good, instead of 13. Nxf8 you could have done Nxe5. But yeah, just remember to develop pieces, and castle, etc.

Yeah. you can find an opponent who doesn't blunder all his pieces in 20 moves. Cool

but seriously, you need to play someone more challenging than your opponent  in this game. I can suggest some improvements:

25. cxb3 is totally fine, but you could have also played 25. Qg8+ first to eliminate the attack once and for all.

I think that 19. Ng5 is uneccessary. 19. h4 is better. Also 23. h5 is better instead of 25. b3.

25. Ne6!, threatening 26. Qc7#, might have won quicker.
