Magnus Carlsen vs Jan Svindahl

Submitted by jaller435718 on Thu, 03/27/2008 at 6:02am.

In this game Magnus Carlsen played white and lost to a Fianchetto variation stratagy, while he was using the English Opening: Symetrical. Magnus played this game when he was 10, so some of the moves weren't all that smart. But he was still a chess wizard because of being able to play expertly when he was 10.

Bf1 is a gross blunder! Even Kasparov blunder like this. This happen in one of his World Championship game againts Anatoly Karpov. He threw away a piece.

40. Bf1??? Why?        40. Rd4! Why not?

Why did white sac the bishop for nothing when he could have guarded then pushed the D-pawn making black sac his bishop.

Was 40. Bf1 an accident or did magnus look 20 moves ahead and decide to throw the game b/c he thought he was gonna lose. Im no GM but on move 39 white looks dominant 2 me.
