Fischer vs Spassky

Submitted by swiss_chess on Sat, 03/01/2008 at 3:20am.

Please excuse my poor annotations. Alot of the moves im not too sure whats going on, and have kind of stated the obvious. But anyway, the game is still great.

the black is so deffensive,i know that the best diffence is the best offence but you must also think of the offence.like in the threatening the rook on 15.Nb6. he suppossed eat the knight.but he didnt he just move the rook on 15.Rb8.in that move you are so very diffensive.

On move 15 black does not take the white knight?  Black had poor rook movement, not Spassky's better days.

I think this is a nice game. If 15 ... Nxb6, Fischer can reply with 16. Qxb4!. Thus,  winning back the Knight, for a pawn and a Knight, with position ... the point seems  to be that the b7-bishop is not supported, and putting a Knight in front of it doesn't help ...

It looks to me as on move 15 if black would have took then white next move would be Qb4 and would have tooked the knight and have the pawn.

Fischer's 2 Nc3 was Spassky's favorite weapon on his way to the World Title.  And it is interesting the Fischer is giving Spassky "a dose of your own medecine".

Talisman wrote, "why doesn't black play 15....Nxb6" After 15.Nb6 Rb8, Black's rook is on b8 for a reason, it covers b7. If 15...Nxb6 16.Qxb4 wins a pawn and attacks the knight on b6 and xrays the bishop on b7. Now, if 16...d5 17.Qxb6 Qxb6 18.Bxb6. Then 18...dxe4? fails due to 19.Rd7. The suggested 15...Nxb6 does not win a piece, but loses a pawn.
