This game is a tactical masterpiece by Barry, as he rains them down on Pillsbury's head. Especially nice is how he sacrifices a rook in order to set up his opponent's queen, who is captured with a couple of move sequences.
To Hawkwing,
33......... kf6
34. Qh4+ Kg6
35. Qg3 kf6
36. Qg7#
Beautiful game! The queen checks at the end to setup the skewer was a great final touch.
because of 34. Qh4+ i guess; and everything would be faster... (but i'm not sure...)
Why does the king not move to f6 on move 33 rather than g8?
to: the philosopher
because if the queen takes the bishop in 27 the the black pawn d5 takes the white rook in e4
(that's also why it didn't take it either in a3 (28th move)
why didn't white's queen take blacks bishop move 27?
Tactically monstrous!
a real beauty. i still fail to use simple yet effective methods ingame such as 11. Qa4 or 17. Nc6...
great play from white indeed...
@ cowsreallymoo-
That would sacrifice Barry's bishop. Obviously he felt the trade was not beneficial.
White doesn't play 6.dxc6 because Black would simply recapture White's bishop on b5. Instead, White develops his b1 knight.
great play by both sides.. up until the end of course
why doesnt white play 6. dxc6 ?
Nice!
wow
What a game! And it was played in my hometown too! That is even more awesome. Thanks for sharing it with us.
