Garry Kasparov vs Shohrat Muratkuliev

Submitted by jaller435718 on Sun, 03/23/2008 at 7:53pm.

This was one of Kasparov's first games. The tournament that he was particapating in was the Baku tt U18 at Baku AZE. The game was Garry Kasparov vs Shohrat Muratkuliev. Kasparov won because of resignation although he wasn't clearly winning. Here it is! I hope you enjoy it. I am going to be sticking more articles about Kasparov.

The opening was:
Morphy Defense. Mackenzie Variation

There is more to the resignation than just being down a bishop. The rook has effectively cut off the pawns on the queenside. White has a phalanx of pawns to advance kingside, while the knight can harass either side. Black's fate was decided when he took the queen.

"Not clearly losing"???

How can black help from going down a piece after his next move?

Forget Fischer. Forget Kasparov. Look at the future with Carlsen... This kid could become the greatest ever! (Time will tell...)

Although, I must say: Kasparov is to chess as poetry is literature; like it/him or hate it/him, it/he is the epitomy of the craft.

Thank you for the post

Please don't take credit away from Kasparov. What more is required than this for a resignation?

seems to me like black IS clearly losing, but I could be wrong. It seems like black either loses the bishop with no compensation or trades rook for knight. Either way, that's pretty bad =(

what did i miss?

Black is clearly losing when he resigned, he can't defend his bishop.
