It Was A Blunder, Not A Brillant Queen Sac.

Submitted by KingLeopold on Wed, 01/21/2009 at 11:02am.

In the following game, my opponent easily wins my queen but for the neglection of his development, I would of resigned. Since he wasn't using a one rook, bishop, had not castled and was about to exchange off his other bishop for my queen, I decided to play on a few more moves to see what happens. Check it out bellow:

Actually, if 18... exf5, then Bxc7 wins a queen :)

Nice game.  I actually can't find a defence for black after 21. Rxe6+.  I saw a comment that said that running toward the center was wrong, but if 21. .... Kd7 22. Bf5 Qb8 (to avoid the nasties of Rd6+), white can play 23. Rd6+! anyway!! 23. .... Ke7 24. Rd7+ Ke8 26. Re1#

An educational article. It demonstrates the time-old opening principles of development and initiative. After 18. Nxd5, Black had no more pieces in the game. On the other hand, all of White's pieces were not only developed, but actively posted and dominating the board. Well done.

Could he have wiggled out with 24... Rxa3 25. bxa3..dxe3 26. Be2+.. Kd4 When c3 would no longer lead to mate because it is not supported by b2 any longer?

I've missed something super obvious.  I'm a novice.  At move 19, in the motes you say you were tempted by 19.Rf7+.  How is that possible?  Are there not 3 pieces blocking the route to that square?

Love the attacking. He can't do anything after the Rooks are attacking and even Queen can't do anything. He can't do anything after being a exchange up.

Hey Rook16,

Why don't you link me to a game where a GM was checkmated?

yeah his king was safe if he moved back, instead of towards the center.  Overall, good use of pieces and final checkmate is tight.
