Keres wins at six moves!

Submitted by aristeidis9 on Fri, 02/13/2009 at 8:49am.

Keres was probably the strongest player who never played for the world championship and he has beaten nine world champions during his career. Here is a miniature against Arlamowski.

I use this game to teach students to always look at the last move made by the other player. Black simply did not look at the move Keres played and how it should have changed Black's preselected move.

I think that this game shows more of an epic blunder than any brilliant play by Keres.

5... Nbd7 deserves a ??????????????????. This was the worst possible move because it was one of the three that allowed checkmate next move. The other two were 5...Nfd7 and 5...Bd7. Both those also deserve ??????????????????.

According to Chessmetrics at 1950 Arlamowski was #214 at world rating with a rating of 2168.He has won Rubinstein at 1938 and has played with some great players, even if he lost (but not in six moves)!

Of course he played wrong, but that's why some players are better than others:Keres just saw his mistake and punished him properly..
