Knight trapped in his castle

Here is a game I played against a player who had defeated me twice prior. I pinned his knight and rook then took control of the ending. I made a few mistakes in the ending but, it still ended well. Check it out I hope you enjoy. I sure did.

    On move 33, why e2, was the checkmate obvious? I would definitely have overlooked a checkmate and moved rook to g2.
