Mate in 3

Submitted by firestare500 on Sun, 04/20/2008 at 4:31pm.

A game in which I played, didnt see the postion he was in, and I lost. I have seen games like this before, and not many people get out alive. . . .

1. Bxa6 is beter, for it is a mate threat. 1. ... Qd8 2. Rb7+ Ka8 3. Ra8+ Kb8 4. b7! and win. 1. ... Nd6 2. b7 Nxb7 3. Rxb7+ Ka8 4. R1c7 and win. 1. ... Nd6 2 b7 Qd8!? 3. Bb6! and win.

Not only is the puzzle not a mate-in-three, 1.b7 loses a winning position.

It isn't a mate. 1. ... Ld2?? A defence is 1. ... Nc5 or Bc5. I suppose that a white rook at h1 is a mistake, and that a Pa2 need to be white? 1. ... Nc5 2. Bxc5 Bxc5 3. Rxc5 Qa5 4. Rc8+ Kxb7 5. Rxe8 and white has a material advantage, bat it is not easy to win.
