Mating Patterns #7: Anderssen's Mate

Submitted by Chesser777 on Sat, 05/17/2008 at 10:24am.

Anderssen's Mate

This checkmate occurs from a corner square with a Rook or a Queen, defended and protected by a pawn or a Bishop in the long diagonal which includes the corner square. The opposing King is checkmated at the square in one of the back ranks in the third file from the wing file (a or h file) in which the corner square is located where the Rook or Queen is positioned for checkmating.
