HI guys,

Back for my 4th article in this series - on Zwischenzugs

A zwischenzug - put simply - is another name for an intermediate move (usually a check or attacking a major piece)

To start off, A game of the genius Aron NImzowitsch

Nimzowitsch

There Nimzowitsch showed the power of taking advantage of miscalculation as his opponent missed the crucial Zwischenzug

Now a "longer" example from W A Brown

This example by W A Brown is truly instructive when it comes to attacks and zwichenzugs as Brown used these to full capacity - when he played Bxh7 and Bxg7

I'll finish off with a couple of my own games

Thanks Guys,

Hi. That's my game, I'm W A Brown, played in a Gloucestershire-Cornwall County match in 1985! How neat to see it here. I was remembering Lasker-Bauer 1895 when I was playing it! You made my day

This topic is most welcome to me.  Some areas where I very much need to delve!  But I am bewildered early (as usual?) here:

In the first game, you note at 5. d4Nxe4Takes the pawn because he had missed 11.cxb

What? How? Takes at move 5 because he had missed cXb at 11?  I have the feeling practically everyone knows what is meant here.

As a kid, reading "My Way" byMr. Nimzovitch really enlightened me.  (Not enough apparently!!  :)
