New Capablanca Series

Submitted by Chinunt on Tue, 03/25/2008 at 2:02pm.

I am going to be posting a series of games by Jose Raul Capablanca. He is, in my oppinion, the greatest player ever to live. They will be played in chronological order. The following game, however, is not in chronological order, but it is my favorite game played by Capablanca and is a great example of Capa's genius:

Next Time: J.R. Capablanca Vs. J. Corzo

zsaskin thanks for that opening. I will be posting a game a week for 9 weeks. Although all of the games in the series were won by Capa, that doesn't mean he won all of his games. I'm thinking of posting more series's, maybe an Alekhine series would be nice...

The opening looks like Scotch game transposed to Ruy Lopez/Steinitz. Great game. Love J.R. Capa

Brilliant sacrifice. As to the opening, i think that the first bit prepares for a scotch game, white hoping for exd4, Nxd4 offering superior central control and development options for the bishops (Nxd4 Qxd4 gives white even better central control and prepares to castle)
