Position vs Material

Submitted by venkatesh920 on Wed, 12/19/2007 at 3:01am.

Here is one of my games which shows the importance of position over material... Comments are most welcome!

nice little sacrifices... Im not going to ruin it by trying to find a way out of checkmate a few moves before...

Ok, now I realize that is not that amazing, beacause it has many blunders.
But the "Immortal" has many too.

Blacks big mistake was 8.0-0-0. The position in which he makes that mistake is a very normal cario-cann type of position and is fine for black.

"rebel1739: 19. should have been g6 not h6 "              if black plays g6, white will take on h7 pawn with the rook followed by KxR and Queen on the h-file check and bringing the other rook into play....however, white takes the lead in position.

Well played by the white pieces. The problems began when black played 7...c6 that move is a waste of tempo it will lead to either the light-squared bishop not being well developed because its blocked off by the knight, which after c6 would only seem well developed on d7 or if black decided to develop the bishop on d7 then the knite is left with the less-than-adequate a6 square. notice how black never found a good spot for the light square bishop, and the knite never moved period. Even with this positional cramp black should have been able to turn things in his favor, that says alot about the technique of the player playing the black pieces in comparison to the one controlling the white pieces.
