Make sure you understand each section completely or you'll just get confused. Each section builds on the knowledge of the other. Just like math if you don't understand one part you won't understand harder math. Make sure you play a lot of chess though. That is the best teacher.

Some advice please re how best to use the Study Plans.  Should one for example take each section step by step and fully complete before moving on to next section, i.e. complete #1 Beyond the Basics before moving on to #2 Beginners: The Opening! etc. OR mave in a parallel fashion thorugh each section until all completed?

I would study what is provided until I've learned it. Pick an opening that fits you for white and black and play it religiously against every opening that your opponents throw at you. Nothing like playing and focusing on every move you and your opponenet make. It will sharpen your skills, and play tactics everyday. You should improve your rating in no time. Play the game for fun too, you'll win more games.

advanced would certainly be above my head - but its a valid learning method to be exposed to material beyond me - I learned to swim in the deep end of the pool. I would love to have world championship play explained to me

@HeavenlyAngelOfLove, Well, your rating is 1283(live blitz) and mine is 2135(online chess). I think you are the one who is not ready. Besides, when I tried to view your profile, it said your account was closed. It's not a good thing to make a challenge and run away.  Innocent

The study plans come and when you are ready for them, you will know and they will be here waiting for you. Once you feel you are ready and with enough experience and practice you may choose whether or not you are going to take the leap and see if you are ready to face the advanced players. Now I am not trying to make a point here or say anything offensive but I feel that when you practice enough, then it is time. Other than that just have fun and relax and enjoy the game of chess :).
