The Beauty of the Pawnstorm

Submitted by casmith_789 on Fri, 08/01/2008 at 7:57am.

This game illustrates the beauty of pawnstorms, and old chess games. Played in 1834 between the two best players in the world at the time, this was a game which shows that position is better than mere material.

La Bourdonnais was a noisy character, whotalked and laughed a lot when he was not thinking, conducting many conversations with the audience to pass the time.

In contrast, MacDonnell was a quiet player who spent a very long time thinking - 90 minutes on some moves, but put up with La Bourdonnais' character because he thrilled on good games - and La Bourdonnais was the best in the world.

Please post any comments you have about the game. I hope you like it.

I've been looking at this game, and ingesting copious amounts of whiskey and coke... I don't even remember how those pawns got there but it must have been good. one to come back to then.
