The Passed Pawn

Submitted by benws on Tue, 03/25/2008 at 5:29pm.

In this entertaining game, Rubinstein sacrifices his queen early on-for the sake for winning a pawn. But he hastens to return it in order to go into a rook ending with an advantage, which he nicely converts.

Rubinstein was one of the best players of his time. Too bad he never became World Champion.

"The Passed pawn is a criminal that must be kept under lock and key. Mere police surveillance is not enough."

                                                                                    -Aron Neimzowitsch

"Restrain. Blockade. Destroy."

                                                                                     -Aron Nimzovich

"The passed pawn is a viscous con-man who has swindled many a better player than yourself. The debate about how to deal with these criminals is fierce; the eminent Nimzovich advocating for their immediate destruction, though the honorable Neimzowitsch said that imprisonment is sufficient. There are of course, those foolish patzers who think Police Surveillance is enough."
