Karpov was devastating in Linares 1994, and this is one of his games. He obtains the advantage in the opening, and slowly begins to creep toward black's king. Then comes a blaze of sacrfices, inculding three rook sacs!
Very interesting game..!
If you know what you are playing, positional advantage is sometimes better than pieces advantage.
black has no tempo gaining moves, no defense and is down 5 pawns.. That calls for a resignation. Great attacks from Karpov
i do not understand any thing
friskyskip wrote, "Why didn't he take the knight on move 20 with the bishop? What am I missing?" In the move list is the comment: "If 20 Bxc6, then 20...Ra7 regains the piece."
Why didn't he take the knight on move 20 with the bishop? What am I missing? I suppose he had more positionally to gain from the rook than to take the knight and lose tempos.
A good game.
I am pretty sure that 5 pawns for an exchange is winning in GM play
Why did he resign? Is there a forced mate?
nice game especially by white
not that the game was dissapointing, but i thought there would be also a third rook from a promotion in order to sacrifice it...
but still a cool game.
cool game.
Thats an incredible game
