Whoever Said...

...you couldn't win a game by hanging on to your pawns and giving up everything to see them through?

There will always be doubters in society, but as i sit here, watching chess.com move away from "beta", while accomplishing all that it set out to do (and then some), i can't help but feel that a small victory has been won.

Ninjabear is right - I think somebody else may have mentioned it - even if Kc8 to try to trade the Queen for the Rook, there's no way black can stop the pawn promotion.

It is the same for black if 32... Kd8 then 33. Re8+ and the rest is the same, black lost no matter what.

Black's first move would have to be ...Kxe8, as mentioned.

If white then moves exd7+, black would likely (IMHO) follow with ...Kd8, blocking the d pawn (less suicidal than ...Kxd7). White would probably advance the f pawn, and black couldn't reorganize fast enough to stop the queen promotion or to immediately threaten the new queen.

At this point, black still has his queen, but white has a rook, a queen, and a decent position. White's king is also pretty insulated, while black just doesn't have much in the way of defenses left. Barring blunders, it seems certain that the game will go to white.

also, if black clings on to material as much as possible, white has a whole battery of promotable pawns that can never be stopped. If black doesn't preserve the material, he/she will be down so much that there is no hope anymore either.

Frankly its depressing.

Thanx benws for sharing Carlos Torre-Repetto talent with chess community . I learned few chess things I know reading a book with 64 Carlos Torre chess games, I did this 20 years ago and chess game became something special in my life. Finally I agree with other fellow, he wrote above that Carlos Torre was the best mexican chess player ever, there is no doubt about it, I'm still thinking Torre was and is the best mexican chess player ever... I also think he could give much more to chess if he wouldn't have had a mental desease and died.

Maybe its because im not looking at the end but it seems like black played really badly.

Should have taken the pawn in move 2 instead of 10. Why move the queen back on move 8? Why not take the bishop on move 21 instead of moving the pawn into that spot? Why the rook move on 29?

I like the comparison Ben. It looks like our pawn has finally been promoted.

Torre was such an amazingly aggressive attacker.  It is a tragedy that he gave up chess shortly after making himself known.

Torre, easily one of the best (if not the best!) Mexicans to ever play... another casualty to bad mental health...
