Why I am in love

If chess be the food of love, play on Yelena Dembo! Yelena's gifts are on full display in this chess.com game against Richard Hayden, hardly a slouch at 2130. One day, when all the stars are in alignment, even I might be able to try give her a game worthy of her time. In the meantime, I'm sure you will enjoy this game as much as I did!

Awesome play for both sides..! Two pawns down and black with two pieces unmoved. Great job for white displaying will. Cool Good post.

Languagedove asks: What would happen if Black's next move was: 24...fxe6? Here's the scenario, best as I can see:

Good annotation, and a wonderful game.  It was fun to see how complex this graceful battle can become.  It took me a good 30 minutes to see the checkmates that could arise out of the final position.

Thanks Sstteevven. Yes: there is more to the Stonewall than Bd3, with pawns either side, I now realiseSmile

3.Nd2, just goes to show that while beginners go on and on about openings, good players can play any old rubbish in the opening and still win Innocent

Just a small correction, that pawn structure is very much a french type position.  A stonewall type structure would have pawns on e3 and f4, with a really bad bishop on c1.

Very nice game, good commentary--short on the obvious, painful to read stuff (like explaining why e4 is a good move).  White sacrifices pawns to make a very nice zugzwang position.

Move 3 As a French devotee, I can say that Black usually loves to play against the anti-French attacks like the Tarrash, I do.

Move 7 White The knights may get tangled up in this line. Some Whites play Nd2 to f3 and put the KN on e2. This line is ok, just not to my liking for White.

Move 8 Black Not keen on that I probably would consider 0-0 then f6 and chip at White's center.

White was brilliant in the Ne6 Qa3 moves. Super game well done Yelena.
