Quad #54: Game 1 (Round 3)

Alright, so here's a change-up from the Slow Swiss! I recently entered a slow quad, which was halfway through, as a replacement for another player. The main thing that attracted me to it was that it was a Thematic Quad, based around the Modern Benoni. I've never played this opening before, so thought I'd give it a try.

Anyway, the Quad was already in Round 3, and I was paired against Suvel_Karmarkar, a similarly rated player in Standard, although lower in other ratings (for various reasons). Here's the game:

A good game, yeah, there was a blunder early on which decided it, but that aside, some interesting moments. I have to stop finishing these 45/45 games with more time than I started with, it's the second game in a row now. Winning them is no excuse, because I didn't exactly play perfect chess, or close. I just need to stop myself drifting into blitz mode subconsciously. Anyway, that's my problem!

Thanks for reading!

But I think a lot of us need to take more time per move

for me I move very quickly 5-10 seconds a move sometimes less. even in OTB play, my key is I think durring my opponents time. just like its better to sac your opponents pieces, it is better to waste your opponents time thinking. This helped me out in a nice KG where I saced a rook in order to get a passer on the 7th that I should have promoted. (of note before the sac I was up an exchange) Long story short the game was drawn.
