Preparing for the Windy City...

It's been a while since my last blog post, but hey, I'm in the mood for love... um, blogging -- AND I so I figured it was time to let you all know an important piece of " News". I'll give you some of my most recent games (I have only played one other local tournament since my last blog) at the end of this piece, and I'll try to offer a few thoughts on what I need to be/am currently working on...

But first, the BIG news:

We are organizing a Meetup and we want YOU to come! Erik, Jay, David and I will all be attending -- and PLAYING -- the Chicago Open this May -- along with many of our Ambassadors! For those of you who may not know, Erik and Jay are the reason(s) for your existence!!! Tongue out Well, your " Existence" anyway. They are the Co-Founders of your second home (yeah, let's be honest, if were a place, you'd live here). Without them, none of us would be here...

David and I are the dudes you deal with on a regular basis. You know, making videos, writing articles, doing Chess/TV shows and managing everyone else who does all those things too. So, not as cool as the meeting the founders, but still pretty cool to meet us...

And finally, many members of our Ambassador Team -- which is a bunch of IMs and GMs who also love and contribute content here on a regular basis -- will also be there! We won't name names yet, but as we confirm that they plan to play too -- I will add them to this blog in the comments. Some of the guys I include in this list of Titled Players who just LOVE Embarassed are (but remember, not all of them will be in Chicago):

  • GM Jon Ludvig Hammer
  • GM Robert Hess
  • GM Alejandro Ramirez
  • GM Sam Shankland
  • GM Melik Khachiyan
  • GM-Elect Conrad Holt
  • IM John Bartholomew
  • IM Mackenzie Molner
  • IM Darwin Yang
  • IM Thomas Rendle
  • The PinkHamster
  • and more equally as cool dudes...

Man, I feel a little like Nick Fury right now (and btw, is anyone else pumped for the Avengers movie??? Laughing) Unite!!!

So, what's the plan in Chicago? Well, nothing too official (no need to report this to Tongue out) because we will all be busy playing our games -- BUT if you've been waiting for the right time to play your first over-the-board tournament, think you might have a shot at one of the BIG Class Prizes the Chicago Open offers, or if your simply dying to "meet the team" behind -- then come on out!

It won't be hard to find us, as we will all be wearing our Protective Shields (OK, let it go Danny - you are NOT Nick Fury Cry). I hope to see each and every one of you there (though if all 5 million of you plan on coming, we should probably let Mr Goichberg know in advance Tongue out).

Some games:

Very disappointed I didn't win this last game against the young, talented Mr Li -- but he defended well. I need to work on my

  • Endgame Technique
  • Mental Discipline When Converting Advantages
  • Critical Decision Making Skills
  • And everything else that makes someone good at chess Tongue out...

Until next time...

Good list of what you need to work on.

Those were some good games you played some very neat rook work there in the last game and your opponent did defend very well! It's an occassion like this I wish I lived in the US... 2465 is a damn-good rating - the GM title will definately be yours within this decade for sure and good luck in the Chicago Open I'm rooting for you man! Cool

the info for the event is in this link:

and it's open to anyone, it's not just for masters.

I live in Chicago and am really interested in the event! I would like to know what dates you will be in town, as I need to plan to take off work. Also, can someone as low rated as me play or is this more for master level players?

I was flippant. I apologize. Much blessed for the raddeon-equivalent. Battle? {capito}. How again is a radion measured?

    There is a charge-valence.

I may play in Chicago next year if my rating goes over 1800 at this year's World Open - if I'm not mistaken the Chicago Open is the tournament with the highest prize fund where the groupings fall on the *odd* number hundred (so U-1900 in my case, I'm hoping anyway).

In any event, I hope your plans are a success this year, so that I can possibly see you next.  Good Luck!

Aside from the X-Men, I don't like it when superheroes team up... But the Meetup sounds awesome! :)

You doing the National Open too this year, Danny?

    Hi Danny and all,

I likely will be going to Chicago to play, will know for sure within the next few days.  In which case I am still looking for a roommate, if you or someone you know and like is looking for a roommate also, please let me know!

There was this really awesome pizza place in Chicago that I ate at when I was there a few years ago, and I forget what it was called,  I mostly eat vegan, but ok, I had to try their reputed pizza, and it was really good Innocent.  I'll find out about the name at that place and whether I can play for sure and let you know.
