Genesis 4:7 - If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

My SINCERE apologies for posting this so late in the day!  However - better late than never!

Last night, I did a performance at the Bardstown Opry - it was a wonderful time in a new environment, and I look forward to going back soon.  During the times in between my songs (performers in jamboree setting typically sing 2-3 songs, then head backstage to wait for their next turn), I got a chance to pray and meditate.  I began to think upon sin, and God began to reveal some very powerful (albeit in a common sense approach) wisdom on sin.

How much power does sin have in your life?  ONLY AS MUCH AS YOU ALLOW IT!  Sin often looks like the walls of Jericho - it is in front of you, thick and strong, and it looks impossible to overcome.  Yet, a little bit of obedience goes a long way.  What did God tell Joshua?  Joshua 1:6 - "Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them."  Joshua had not even entered the land with the children of Israel that he had spied upon in Numbers 13 - this moment had been a long time coming.  He had seen the people of the land - they looked impossible by man's understanding to overcome.  Yet, Joshua was a MAN OF FAITH.  He knew that even though it was impossible for man, it was possible through God.

Joshua embraced the promise of FAITH, which correlates to OBEDIENCE.  One secret to your Christian walk is that the level of obedience you have to God parallels your level of faith.  If you have little faith, you will stumble and shake in moments of testing, not being rock solid.  Let us continue - Joshua finally made it to the walls of Jericho, and God gave specific instructions as to how to defeat Jericho - to walk around in silence for 6 days, and on the seventh day to SHOUT!

This sounds RIDICULOUS!  How is shouting going to make thick walls collapse?  Yet, Joshua was obedient to God's Word, regardless of how ridiculous it sounded to man.  Let me ask you a question - if he had been disobedient, do you think those walls would have fallen?  NO!  Joshua obeyed God rather than his own thinking, and when the walls fell, Israel came in and took what God had given to them.

You may be facing the walls of Jericho in your own life (sin).  It stands tall and powerful and IMPOSSIBLE to penetrate.  Yet, what eyes do you use to look upon these walls?  Do you use the carnal eyes that say, "I cannot do it...", or do you use the spiritual eyes that say, "I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHICH STRENGTHENETH ME" (Philippians 4:13)?  These are the eyes of faith that you will need to see God's plan in your life.

How much credit do you give the sin that wars against you?  Do you say, "It's useless - I can never get over this sin"?  Don't profess defeat in your life any longer.  In the scripture I mentioned at the beginning, God was trying to encourage Cain to overcome sin in his own life.  Sadly, he allowed sin to have dominion over him, and he slew his brother in anger and jealousy.

This even goes all the way back to God's Word inGenesis 1:26 - And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.  This scripture is a prophetic utterance over your life that says, "YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE DEFEATED ANY LONGER!"  Paul gives us a word in Romans 8:37 - "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us."

Today, I encourage you that if you have a battle that you are warring against sin, don't give up!  I leave you with this scripture to speak victory over your life.  What you profess, you shall receive by faith!  Before I drop the bomb, however, I want to leave you with a scripture that lets you know that we ALL endure troubles, no matter how strong we may look.  Ecclesiastes 9:11 - I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

With that being said, here is a scripture you can embrace in your life to OVERCOME THE SIN that seeks to defeat you!

Isaiah 40:28-31 / 28Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
29He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

God bless!
