07-12-12 / Love vs. Works

It's not about the works as much as it is about the LOVE relationship to the Lord. If you are a busy-bee, yet your heart is not truly in love with the Lord, you may be just going through the motions. Check your heart!

Revelation 2:2-4 / "2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love."

Jesus spoke to the church of Ephesus and told them that they were doing a good job in their WORKS department, but they had forgotten about the FIRST LOVE - their walk was based around a desire to do works without being based in LOVE. As sad as this may sound, this is a type of idolatry (worshipping the works).

Jesus is interested in your HEART, my friend. He wants an intimate relationship with you FIRST. Once that groundwork is established, the works will naturally bubble out of your heart, as you will have allowed Christ to etch His nature in your heart much like a lover etches the two names in a tree.

Green, you are correct.  If your heart is truly founded upon love, you will seek to help someone who is in need if you are able.

This type of "love" talk is meaningless without accountability, responsiveness to the needs of others, following all of Christ's teachings, submission to authority in all its manifestations.

And because of the Church's failure in rigorous teaching on living in the real world effectively and in submission to authority, the evils spoken of in Revelation and elsewhere thrive.  When I was running my tree and landscape business, I received very little real help from mainstream Christians with regard to the need for government compliance issues and accountability.

So "love" looks really good in the abstract which is how it is usually taught.  In reality, love involves dealing with the hard teachings of Christ and doing the hard thing, not living in one's good feelings, modern "praise" music, aping the behavior and attitudes of those around us, acting suitably religious and providing "love" offerings to various ministries.  If we look at how the early Church lived day to day and truly loved one another and non-believers, the modern church is very immature in comparison (in accord with this month's Christianity Today lead article).
