10/11/11:  I am a complete novice. One might say a mover of pieces rather than a chess player as I have a USCF rating under 1000 (no class or F-class if they had such a designation).  My 10 year old son is a solid C player and is coached by a prominent figure at chess.com.  He loves chess and has dreams of becoming a master player.  He has shared with me the secret of loving this game as well. I take him to tournaments 2-3 times per month around our city and we get out to regional or national events 6 times per year.

Update 7/28/12: I am now a solid E player and my son who is 11 is a solid B player. Progress :)
