Chess Traps #6: Siberian Trap - Sicilian Defense

http://facebook.com/ChessNetwork

The Siberian chess trap implements the tactic of deflection out of the Sicilian Defense, Smith-Morra Gambit. Black positions both knights and queen to directly or indirectly influence the h2 square. The Siberian Trap is a trap for black out of the Sicilan Defense, Smith-Morra Gambit and, in this tutorial, I play through the moves to the deflection tactic while offering very brief tips.

Similar positions arise in other openings and its always a good idea to keep your eyes open for these types of traps.

With this trap, you can catch a lot of unprepared players, because white follows the standard plan of development in the Morra gambit without thinking.

If you like this trap, you should be aware that White can avoid it if he doesn't castle immediately and plays Qe2 followed by e5 instead. An other plan for White is castling without Qe2, Nb5 followed by e5. If White castles he can't immediately play Qe2, if he plays Qe2, he shouldn't castle immediately. Maybe the subject of the next video?
