    Why didn't Topalov just play Bd7 instead of Rb8, given that he played it anyway a couple of moves later, and then played Ra8 again? Was it in fact a waiting maneouvre?

    Very useful, I've seen Carlsen win a lot with white playing the Ruy Lopez, d3 instead of Re1 to avoid the Marshall.
