Aesthetics of a chess set

I'm avoiding too much chess on the internet.  It's good training and fun to set up a position on a good quality wooden set and study it for the recommended 20 minutes without moving the pieces.   A good wooden set is a physical pleasure and a beautiful thing.  As a source of positions I'm  using  'Imagination in Chess' by  Paata Gaprindashvili who I presume is a relation of Nona Gaprindashvili, Women's World Champion 1962-78 and the first female grandmaster.

I try to keep my turn-based games to a minimum.  Although I do use the Analysis Board a lot; there comes a time when some game requires EXTRA thought.  Then I pull out my little wooden chess set ,then set up the position and place the board where I will have to see it during the day.  Periodically moving the pieces back and forth.  While this does not always result in a win it does give me a more tactile relation to that particular game.

So, don't think that the internet has dismissed all of us to the computer screen.  My little wooden set is proud to be a vicarious participant in this day & age.
