My Journey to 1800
June is almost over and my USCF rating is at 1406. My goal is to be playing like an 1800 by the time the first rated tournament of the 2015-2016 school year comes around in mid-September. That means that I have almost three months to improve my playing strength by about four hundred rating points. I have plenty of time on my hands due to the fact that summer vacation is not even close to being over. The problem is that I do not know what study plan to follow that will allow me to reach 1800 in three months.
The areas I really need to improve in are tactics, knowledge of opening theory, positional and strategical ideas in the middle game, and endgame skills. In other words, I need to improve in every way I can. Please help me reach my goal by giving me recommendations on how to improve, how much time to dedicate to each topic, and how to come up with a formulaic and efficient study plan! Ideally, I would come with one that looks similar to the chart below except with a certain amount of time in each empty slot:
Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | Saturday | Sunday | |
tactics | |||||||
opening study | |||||||
positional ideas | |||||||
endgame skills |
If I successfully come up with an excellent study plan, I will have no problems reaching my goal!
