I would choose the first one.

I agree with Denverhigh.  The first picture tells a story while the second looks like a family picture.  There is nothing wrong with family pictures and that is a great one, but the picture that tells a story would mean more to non-family members.

They are both nice, but definitely the first one because of your audience.

what is the theme of the competition ?....it is important to know it, when you must to choose between those photos...but for me, personally, I will choose the first one  (more natural than the other one)

I like the first one, because the second one looks like a pose.

The first looks photo like it just happened when you snapped it.

The little weed she is offering looks like it's a flower. To the eye of the beholder a weed can be a flower. The little girls is accepting it as a little flower.

I like the first one. You could make a lot of symbolism about peace and the innocence of children, not to mention that they are adorable.
