BLED revisited

I had the privilege of visiting Lake Bled resort in Slovenia a few days ago and although it was only 2 days long visit, I managed to relax and absorb some of that magnificent atmosphere.

Of course, some of the greatest chess encounters took place there, most notably the legendary Interzonal Tournament in 1959, when Fischer got his GM norm and crossed swords with all the top grandmasters of the time.

But, when I think of Bled , 2 games always come to my mind, both played in tournaments held there...

These 2 games are well known to most chess lovers, but I had to share some of chess magic inspired by the beauty of Bled.

                          Alekhine - Nimzovitsch , Bled 1931.

                             Fischer - Geller , Bled 1961.

Exactly Fred!  When Fisher first visited there, he read a memorial book about the 1931 Tournament which Alekhine won, and repeated Alekhine`s words.....`` Bled is such a magnificent place that I have to win here``...

Indeed, NimzoRoy! I adore Your blogs:-) So informative and detailed. The funny thing is that I wanted to post Fischer vs. Smyslov game from 1959 since that one ment so much to Bobby. The evening before that game he watched a movie about Van Gogh starring Kirk Douglas and stressed that he would cut off one of his ears if he loses against Smyslov. He won the game :-) but I picked the Geller one because it shows his briliance in simplicity.

The Fischer game is fully annotated in "My 60 Memorable Games" and it is also awesome
