Very simple, play yourself Over The Board (OTB). Yes, in front of a chess board. Play the best possible move, and then the best possible counter move. I feel that it is the EASIEST way to learn about: openings, midgames, endgames, forks, pins, traps, blunder reduction, logical play, and of course, the one that sometimes eludes us all, finishing. The checkmate to end the match, without giving your opponent an opportunity to force or claim a draw, by stalemate or repetition. By doing this simple thing daily (sometimes only 3 times a week), my online chess rating has gone up by over 210 points in the past 3.5 months. This is a fun and effective way to train when you have no one to play with at the time, or no tournament you are currently involved in. All you need is a chess set (clock is optional, but nessecary if you play quick matches [15 min or less]). Enjoy!
