Yes, 8. Qxb6 cxb6 9. Rxa8 is easily winning and tempting. In the game I don't think I even considered it because I was too low on time to count material! I just analyzed the check first and that was that.

That's kind of a funny thing to say without providing an alternative move. I don't think there is anything black can do about the coming checkmate and he just hoped white might go for the queen trade.

Perhaps a better try was 6. ... Rd8 intending to meet 7. Ra8+ with 7. ... Kd7 and then Ke8 getting to safety, but white just plays 7. Ra7 instead.
