What is 'chess' in Filipino?

hi,

anyone could give me a satisfactory answer about my question of what is the Filipino word for 'chess'?

hope this quest or inquiry of mine will be given an answer, anyone who reply will be greatly appreciated and more thanks.

    I believe there's no direct translation.  The Spaniards introduced chess to us, and chess in Spanish is "ajedrez".  And so, I suppose the Filipinos first called chess "ajedrez" or the Filipinized version "ahedres".

    None, but during Spanish colonization of the Philippines,the Spanish term 'ajedrez' for chess is widely used.The explanation for this is that a board game called 'dama' a Filipino version of checkers is more popular than chess in Filipino culture/society.
