i like the 2nd 1 Spoiler Alert contains a kamikaze ROOK!!
ive just solved the 1st 1
Thanks :) My tactics and endgames are about CM level but my openings are only about 1700 level which brings the overall game quality down :(
trying to study openings but it's not easy
Wow, well I'd advise you to go for a CM title! They aren't the easiest puzzles in the world and the if you got the last puzzle then you are definitely not a bad problemist.
I'm not titled (my ECF grade is 183) and I managed to get 2 right :)
first one was actually quite easy to get one move at a time (i.e. this is the only move that doesn't let him queen, so play it and hope for the best)
Second one i didn't kave a clue about... I knew I had to somehow move that rook from the g-file but had no idea how to do it
Third one I'd seen the end of before and knew the final position but didn't think about saccing the knight to get to it
Fourth one I sort of half got, I had seen the final position a long time ago and knew that would be the position to aim for, so I thought need to sack the rook on a2, I then saw the stalemate. So first I quickly played the embarrasing 1.Rc2??? which of course immediately loses to Rd8+, then got the right move on second attempt. Then on move 2 I played 2.Re3? not noticing that after 2...Nac3+ 3.Kc1 Rxa1 the knight covers e2 preventing Re2+ and Ra2. After that showed up as wrong I got it.
Fifth one I knew I need to get right to be the level of a titled player :) I thought this is a strange puzzle but after I saw several mates in 3 I realised it must be a mate in 2.
and it annoyed me loads because first I thought about things like 1.Qg6 Kxe5 2.Qg7# but the king goes to c5 instead. so I thought let's cover c5 by something like 1.Qc6, but then the king comes to d3 :( But I kept thinking until I saw the mate in 2 :)
So this means I'm the level of a titled player then :) good to know
Thanks for the puzzles :) Very nice way to keep me awake when I should be in bed
If you have any questions or suggestions, please post it on my homepage, where I can see it. Thanks!
