THUNDERHOLT!!!

I would like to be the first one to publicly congratulate GM-elect Conrad Holt on his astounding chess achievements. Today he made draws with Ray Robson and Alex Lenderman to clinch his final GM norm at the UTD invitational, capping off an incredible string of fantastic results. His ability to delve into the depths of a position and find the absolute truth without paying any regard to the rating of his opponent or ever getting intimidated in any way is truly remarkable and as a Grandmaster I will say I am honored that such a great and promising player is joining me and my colleagues in our ranks. I've included one of the many great games he played in this tournament, one where he defeated top-seeded GM Giorgi Kacheishvili with the black pieces.

I'm sure he will have his own account of the tournament as well, and I encourage all chess.com members to read his blog when he gets around to publishing it.

Missed the queen trap in the final position.  Here is how my computer wins a won game with a nice twist on Caliphigia's line.

Nice finish. The knight apparently goes after the King, but slyly gets the Q trapped

    At first I couldn't understand why whte resigned. After quite a while I found 36...d4, winning white queen. Also that the idea of giving a queen for a Rook and knight with 36. Kf2 d4, 37. Qc4 Rxc4, 38. dc4 and black queen is attacked fails because of 38...Qc6, 39. Bg2 Be4 (or 39. f5 ef5, 40. Bg2 fg4, 41. hg4 Be4)
