Shredder Chess on the iPad

If you are lucky enough to have your very own iPad, then being a chess fan you will no doubt be looking for a killer chess app to run on the device.

Fortunately, Shredder Chess is now available for the iPad.  Shredder is a 12-time world computer chess champion and is already very popular on many different platforms that you can download at the Shredder website.  I have it on my iPhone and it's a great app.

The iTunes link for the Shredder iPad download is here.

Hi Zac.  I'm glad this old blog of mine (and the comments) has been useful to you!

There are lots of famous game collections and more at this site.

This site also has lots of collections, and if you want the very latest games then TWIC has new files every week.

    Enjoy! Smile

After reading the many comments on this blog I decided to try t chess pro.  I have to say I am very satisfied.  It looks great, works great, and is easy.  My biggest desire for this app is the PGN database option.  Does anyone have recommendations on the easiest way to obtain a large amount of famous games for me to load onto my iPad?  Any links or instructions or sites, etc would be most appreciated.  Thanks.  I am new to the PGN concept so please explain it to me like I was 5.  :-)  Thank you.

@Krames - My 2 cents is that where PGN is concerned, I think tChess Pro is the stronger of the two:

    • Supports copying/pasting single-game PGN directly to/from the current game screen via a special window
    • Allows you download an entire PGN database to the device (from a web URL)
    • Supports iTunes file sharing
    • Once it's installed, you can open a PGN file attached to an email directly in tChess Pro
    • "Revert to last save" feature allows you to freely mess around with side-lines in any of your saved games; when you're done experimenting and want to go back to the saved main line, just "revert" and you snap back to reality.  :)

Can you import and store games with these programs?

Could I store games as pgn files on either of these apps in an ipad?

@ DeepGreene - that one I hadn't spotted before and it looks great.  One advantage for the Lite version of Shredder is that it's free , and for quick casual games on-the-go the Lite version is strong enough for me!

Thanks, SonofPearl!  And just to make things more complicated, tChess Pro also supports the iPad.  Better yet, it's a 'universal' app, so if you've got an iPad and an iPhone, you only have to buy this once (not true of the Shredder app.. er, apps).  Shredder is awesome, but tChess is slightly awesomer, in my humble opinion.

Especially noteworthy are the openings exploration features and the new zoomable/tiltable 3D board options.

@nwav - I've increased the size of the screenshots to make it clearer!

Does that say "Hating" under "Puzzle" in the first shot?

Edit: Now I see, it's just zoomed out from a better quality.
