My Vacation (from chess)

Hi all.  I'm going on vacation for two weeks to Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.  It'll be great, as I'm visiting relatives.  Maybe I'll poke around the local chess clubs.  But I think it might be a good idea to take a break from online blitz chess, and spend more time learning good tactics, openings, positional play, etc.  I've got quite a few chess books, namely Logical Chess, Killer Tactics, and the Scandinavian Defense 2nd ed.  Despite thinking it's a good idea to take a break from chess, a part of me knows I couldn't last a day without reading/playing some chess (related thing).  The plane trip across the Pacific Ocean is ~14 hours, so I'll definitely be going through positions on my magnetic chessboard.  Maybe I'll even find someone to play against =D.

Who knows, it seems chess is a global passion, unlike some of the other less significant interests I have (lacrosse, american football).

I'll keep you guys updated...or more like the few of you that actaully read my blogs.

Have fun.  I think a break from chess every now and then is essential.

I am used to those long hauls cuz I fly to Australia and the Philippines periodically. Sydney to Los Angeles to New york City means a full day of traveling. Just SYD to LA is already 14 hours non-stop. Bring your laptop and recharger. I have learned that there is no book good enough to keep you occupied on long hauls. Report from Singapore while you are there. Show us some pics of Singaporean chess.

Well I think that from time to time is a good idea to have some "chess holidays" too. That means no chess at all for some days! Based on my experience I have to say that sometimes it's not bad to put the chessboard aside. After your holidays you will find yourself "fresh" and your mind will be relaxed. That will give you the feeling that your mind works better and that you get less tired after playing long games or studying chess books.

    Anyway, enjoy your holidays! Cool
