In October, 2012 , I had a trip to Mallorca, a beautiful island and famous resort, which is located in the Mediterranean Sea and belongs to Spain.

Before I share other photos and videos from that amazing place, here is a short information about the island :

Mallorca is the largest island in the Balearic Islands archipelago, in Spain. The capital of the island is Palma, is also a capital the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. In former times Mallorca was occupied by the Romans, Gunderic,Vandals, Byzantine Empire and Arabs. Nowadays this is one of the most famous resorts in the world. Many artists (Michael Douglas, Claudia Schiffer, etc) and academics choose to visit and live on the island. In 2010 over 6 million tourists visited Mallorca.

  •    Area : 3,640.11 km²
  •   Population is about 870,000 ( as of 1 January ,2010)
  •   Official languages : Mallorcan ( similar to Catalan language) and Spanish.
  •   Largest city :  Palma (pop. 404,681)

Interesting fact :  Rafael Nadal was born and currently resides in Mallorca.

During my trip to Mallorca, I was residing in Magaluf, the major holiday resort of the island. However, one full day I dedicated to visiting Palma, the capital of Mallorca. The pictures of this article will cover Magaluf and the next post will deal exclusively with Palma de Mallorca.

Magaluf

As was mentioned above, Magaluf is the major holiday resort of Mallorca. As I found out after my trip, Magaluf is primarily catering for the British, Russian and Scandinavian package holiday market. I stayed there when season was almost off, but still there were many old couples from Germany, England and Scandinavian countries. I guess, young people are coming to chill out mostly in summer, when the resort is more crowdy. However, even in October the night-life in Magaluf is very noisy and according to Wikipedia sources — has been notorious for many years. I had to close the balcony when going to sleep, because it was so much noisy! It’s hard to imagine what is going on, when season is still on…

The airport of Mallorca is just 30 km away from Magaluf, so it’s even possible to take a taxi, which would cost approximately 40 euro in one way. Nature and landscape are breathtaking, see the gallery and whole article on my official blog :  http://blog.alexipatov.com/2013/05/01/exploring-mallorca-magaluf
