When King Hunts go wrong

Just a quick update to show you a portion of my league game last night: see if you can find the win I missed!

Tragic I'm sure you'll agree. My only excuse is I did only have a couple of minutes left to make move 30 - can you do any better?

Remarkable! The key was "squeezing" the old king out of his safe haven behind the major pieces.

I'm always amazed by the ability of masters to identify lines like this after the fact. IM Trendle, if I may ask...how long did it take you to find the line in the puzzle?

It would have probably took me an hour before I could fully understand this line....

It's very pretty, kind of impossible to exactly calculate at the board, though!

From the position at move 30, I saw another winning variation, less pretty but a lot easier to calculate (it starts with the same move):

30... Rd6+ 31. Kc2 Qxe3 32. Rxd6 Qc5+ and Black wins the Rook and the game. Still some effort required but it looks like a won endgame. Very instructive game, thanks so much!

A quick post-script - at least I have a couple of reasons to be cheerful: the team won an exciting match 7-5 and the game wasn't FIDE Rated. This weekend I'm playing in the National League where the time-control is 40/2hrs rather than last night's 30/75mins +15min.
