Chess Poetry #2: Ode to Knights

Staunton, a head of a horse

steers opposition into discourse.

Queens and bishops run in fright,

away from the fearful knight.

See them scream! See them run!

"Come back! My destruction is not yet done!"

The knight leaps nimbly with much grace

and lands right in front of his target's face.

"Hello, and good-bye!" he happily neighs

and with another neigh, he leaps away.

"Checkmate to your majesty!

Fallen is your monarchy!"

The fallen king weeps bitterly,

then says:

.....

"A plague over both your houses!"
