Fancy Dragon

Dragon is still a powerful weapon for black, despite some latest theoretical advances. One bad move and you can finish up like white in following miniature.

I just play 2. c3 and avoid all those "fancy" sicilian lines.

Nice attack there by black. But of course, you also need to consider the big disparity in the ratings between the 2 players...

If the Dragon is so weak, then why did Bobby Fischer and Gary Kasparov both play it?  In fact, it's extremely dynamic and is one of the best answers to e4, if you're playing for an unbalanced position and a win.  If you want a more solid, yet more boring drawish line, I'd suggest the French Rubenstein variation.  However, having played both the Sicilian and French in tournaments, I feel more comfortable with the Sicilian Dragon or Sicilian e6 variation (Rossilimo? Schevenegen?) than any of the French variations.

@Skofe - it is not weak, just requires a lot of preparation. (Like most of Sicilian openings).

The dragon is weak , not worth playing at higher levels .

Who would have thought Timothy Oliphant could find time in his busy hollywood schedule for a game of chess?
