    Norma,

    Thanks!

Chessgames.com only holds 13 of her games. Big difference!

. . .and thanks for the lesson in pinging. I never did understand how it was being accomplished.

There are 97 games of Diane Savereide at http://www.chesslab.com. All are between 1976 and 1988, so one has to use 'search historical archive [1485-1990]' - type Savereide as white player (49 games) and then as black player (48 games). [They are all Diane Savereide - I checked].

Her three earliest games at chesslab.com are from the Tbilisi, Georgia tournament - those include a draw against Maya Chiburdanidze.

And I found a sort-of-way to reach any given page of batgirl.atspace.net from here - google it and click on 'cached'. [clicking direclty on the link of course waits and waits and then gives 'page  load error' ...] - this info may help those who tried to reach it and couldn't...

Presuming on batgirl's permission - I hope I am not being too presumpuous for this one - I am posting the following excerpt from her Diane Savereide - Revisited :

"In her 2006 book, "Chess Bitch" Jennifer Shahade, herself a U.S. women's chess champion, narrated the following about Ms. Savereide:

Nearing thirty, with seven national titles under her belt, Diane tried to make a go as a professional player. In the summer of 1984, she took time off from her job as a computer programmer to play in tournaments, but didn't make enough money.
    She quit.

    . . .

For the past twenty years, Diane has played chess rarely. She sometimes misses the friends, travels and intensity of chess. But she has always been too passionate about the game to play casually even now."

Neither do I or will I - and hey you provided altenate links so its okay! --- only, looks like readers in someparts of the world won't be able to reach batgirl.atspace.net for some obscure reason.

UPDATE: of course 'ping batgirl.atspace.com' didnt work because there is no such thing! my mistake: i pinged .com instead of .net!

It is just that i can't reach it from calcutta: ping info: [the IP is 63.214.247.170 as you can see]

    C:\Documents and Settings\me>ping batgirl.atspace.net

Pinging batgirl.atspace.net [63.214.247.170] with 32 bytes of data:

    Request timed out.

        Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

    C:\Documents and Settings\me>
So, could be my ISP blocking 63.214.247.170 ...

    (End of technical digression.)

sorry - was in intercontinental transit -

Crash course on how to ping:

in windows, open a dos window [command window] and type 'ping <whatever>'

    reposting with explanation:

red [or blue/green] is what the computer showed,

black [or blue/green] is what I typed,

blue/green is what should be read or black, and without underline,  but chess.com is converting into blue underlined hypertext link :)

[in the dos window of course it was all white text against black background - though one can change that with escape-sequences]

    C:\Documents and Settings\me>ping batgirl.atspace.com

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

The link worked from england but I forgot to ping and note down the IP-address- it doesnt work from here still but the alternate ones do...

[e.g . sbchess.sinfree.net is human-rememberable form of 216.65.1.200. Try going to http://216.65.1.200 and see, you'll land up at sbchess.sinfree.net. Correction: no you won't. These things have changed a lot since I learnt them it seems! Lot of redirection etc. Otherwise you could have pinged batgirl.atchess.net, got the IP address and link to there. But that technical knowledge of mine is obsolete now, as I just discovered..]

    How do you "ping" something?

I clicked on the batgirl.atspace.com you provided and had no problem.  It must stem from something beyond the hosting service.

But I also don't want to lose sight that the important element here is Diane Savereide.

curious - the dns my isp is using can't resolve the atspace.com thing into those 4 numbers! here is the result of 'ping':

    try again.

yes the alternate links work fine; the atspace.com ones still unreachable from here [calcutta india] - maybe gateway prob - those undersea cables which a ship hit near the suez canal cutting off internet from europe&USA  to most of Asia [ a few months back] - something like that on a minor scale - but both are US hosted so that cant be! - maybe my isp here is blocking atspace for some reason - if it continues i'll complain to them.

hmm... how odd.  The links worked then and work now for me. But just in case,  here are alternate links:

    Thanks!
