Chess 2020 an Olympic sport?

We have seen football added to the Olympics this year, could chess be on the cards for 2020? I ask myself why isn't it already? It's the biggest board game in the world, with alot of highly skilled players playing it. It also takes dedication, mental strength, and physical conditioning to play for countless hours. We have 8 years guys to push for it. Wether this is just a dream or a fanatasy that one day, it just might been an Olympic sport. I also call on chess.com to pump funds into the chess maintstream.

Forrie you have a valid point to some degree. My brother as the same argument as you, regarding chess as an olympic sport. He said if they did chess they would have to also bring in card games. I disagree with him/you, because most card games are based on luck rather than skill. We could say chess is a game a like "POKER" Where we need to play with skill, caution and wait for our opposition to blunder. But with poker and all card games alike the element of luck out ways the skill, even at the higest level. Therefore no card game could ever be apart of the Olyimpics in my opinion.

I am a great chess fan. I hope that chess will be an olympic sport oneday.

However, i think the committee reasons that if they add chess to the Olympics they will also have to later add the computer games like Warcraft or SimCity or even cardgames like Poker and Bridge etc....(most people outside chess rahter sees chess in this category)

The downside to chess is that very few spectators will understand it...I can watch weightlifting, judo, table tennis or the 100m and it is quite understandable (even for someone who dont know the detailed rules) and great to watch.

Another Olympics will be neccesary for mindgames, maths etc.

Karate is a sport I thought would of been in there. I think it's Judo that's apart of the oylmpics. I have a boxing background so the amertuer boxing is a good thing, but at the same time i'm all about the professional side of all sports.

I think if India or Russia get the games in the future we could well see it. I don't know how they would stream it. As to many cameras could be a distraction like Bobby Fischer once said. Maybe they would screen via 3D computer graphics. One can only wish.

I would call it more professional football, if you look at the stars playing. Ryan Giggs etc. Maybe one day they will get chess if it's hosted in a massive chess native country. Who knows? I hope so would be great.

Which football did they add?  Un-23 Soccer has been in  previous Olympics which includes the men and the womens division.

Football / Soccer have the massive FIFA World Cup games which take place every four years which the whole world participates.

Some sports are allowed sometimes only as an exhibition usually at the host country, not a permanent allowed entry.
