The d4 master: Kramnik

This game was played in Linares in 2000 by Kramnik.  He played d4 (my favoured opening) against Shirov (the slav).  Amazing use of minor pieces against 2 Rooks where Kramnik displays superb positional understanding to squeeze the Rooks into submission.

Thanks Attila. Even exchanging Queens, which Kramnik did, would not have saved him. The Bishop is a monster and is a bit like Anand's Bishop on b7 when he defeated Aronian in the Tata Steel this week. Superb endgame by Kramnik :)

Nice endgame play! Maybe Shirov needed to exchange queens on e5, to prevent his pawn to be isolated on the d-file. The active pieces ate pawns after pawn and the b-pawn won the game.
