Recently, my USCF rating rose to 2599 (arrgh!) as I have won 21 consecutive USCF rated games. I have not been 2600 in over 2 years, and, with the 2014 Bill Wright Saint Louis Open coming up next weekend, I may be 2600 very soon, or possibly never again!
Here is my latest victory, over talented "A" player, Ronit Kirumaki, who, is not yet 12 years old!
ah, ok. Thanks GM gmfinegold, it did seem that you pretty much dominated him! (But very good play from an under-12 year old!) Oh, and congrats on your getting 2600, which you announced in another post. Cheers. :)
@D_Ostwald He is about 1800 USCF.
11.c5 looked like a very good move to me.
I actually thought that black had to play 10...c5 and not 10...h6
In the end h7h6 turned out to be a serious weakening of the black kingside.
I found it fascinating how white let the white square bishop be traded.
And then in the end win with the white squares (f5) included nevertheless.
And in general I'm a bit surprised that white players are playing a quick e4 in their games in the last few years. When I studied chess as a teenager the Nimzo-Indian games showed that the square e4 was important, but I never saw a quick e4 in those games (Even not in the f3 variation. There was always a lot of preparation, and preventing e4 by black). Wonder what happened in the mean time.
The game itself makes it look like chess is easy.
An impression one can get from looking at games from Capablanca and Petrosian.
I enjoyed looking at this game. Nice. Thanks Ben !
Good luck with going towards ... 2700 and higher
Being one point away from 2600 is a good problem to have!
11.c5 is most instructive to me.Thankyou.
And Ronit's rating is? I think no where near 2600 ...
I have not been 2600 in all my life...
Wow! Talk about central control!
Well, I think he played 5...Bxc3+ too early. My 11.c5 is VERY ambitious. I should have played 13.e5 instead of 13.d5. He should have played 13...b5 instead of 13...Qe7. He should play c4 every move after 13...Qe7. 16...c6?? is a blunder. He should sacrifice a piece for my advanced pawns at each turn. The last 5 moves are a massacre! :)
You Ca do it it's only 1point :-)
Man, that was dominant.
Talented 11-year old.
I would really like to read your comments on this game, would it be possible?
Good luck in Saint Louis, let us know about it!
