resignation...generally we mean "give up", "surrender" or "concede" - ie, especially in chess, we are resigned to losing.
However, resignation can be an acknowledgement of a status quo; and similarly considered in the context above , would probably lead to a draw.
It can also mean a strong determination - for instance, I am resigned to working "2 on", "1 off" for the next few months in order to pay the bills; this entails leaving my children, home town, and dog behind. Fortunately my children are well cared for, my dog has adopted a new owner, and Darwin can look after herself. My resignation is that "it is what it is...", or, as the French may say - "c'est le vie"- as much as it may hurt, as much as it entails sacrifice and suffering : so it is, and let it be so. As the British may say, "chin up old chap"; I'll grin and bear it.
