David Pruess Leaves Chess.com

Well I just heard today that we lost David Pruess during the live cast with Dan Heissman.  I always enjoyed David and Danny hosting the live sessions.  I guess it will always be a mystery what happened, but hopefully David is just doing what's best for his chess career and there were no hard feelings.  I don't particularly think Danny will mind hosting alone, but I'm sure we will all miss him.  Hopefully he make a presence on YouTube so that he doesnt disappear.  If anyone has more information, please comment.

Wow!  I knew something was up, as nothing added up.

All I can say is I feel sorry for David for what he's been through.

I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to get his own chess site up and running. He was very much liked/loved, he would not struggle to get a lot of support and get a decent membership base.

There are some people in this world that have hearts of gold. Not a very  high percentage make or are CEO's/Directors.  I believe David would be an exception, if he did become one. Who wouldn't want to work for someone who is not greedy but believes in making sure his employees are being paid well for their work?

I don't believe in communism, only because I don't believe it can work, as most people wouldn't be willing to bust their guts studying for years to become a doctor or engineer (for example) if they will only reap  the same or similar benefits as someone who cleans houses or drives a bus.  But I do believe in having good work ethics, not being ruthless in business, and rewarding your workers with a decent and fair pay packet / work conditions.

I really don't know how some people in business can sleep at night. It's like they have no conscience.

Just an interesting little thing I found on David Pruess' blog, where he discusses his leave from chess.com. Very fired up debate in the comments below it too.

(NOTE: I am not choosing a side, just thought it might be interesting for people to hear from David)

I don't think so, as I doubt  staff would have seen this thread as it's a personal blog, not a public forum.

I wonder if magne's account getting deleted had anything to do with the things he posted in this thread

    What is "skerlink" ?

Re: David, who knows why he left. He's such a nice guy though, I do genuinely miss him not being around. When I was having my own personal issues with staff because I felt they were allowing members to harrass me even after I kept reporting the abusers, in other words felt my tickets were being ignored, and I showed my discontentment, he still always remained very courteous, friendly and helpful to me.

lots of questions that I guess only he and staff know the answers to Magne.

Btw, my brother has holidayed in Iceland. He had a swim in one of the ice lakes and said it was one of the best experiences he has whilst travelling, and he's travelled A LOT, and is still travelling.. lucky bugger!

Yes I know mange_marsden, but still, I don't understand why, to quote you to "trick anyone" into believing he's still here?  So what if he found a better job and wanted to leave? What's the big deal? People don't stay in the same jobs forever. Because he's an IM and the staff want the members to think he remains loyal to the site? Btw, if it's true that his account is being kept open under the false pretense that it's really him playing, wouldn't David be questioning the legality of that? Because it's showing him as not being the master that he truly is, if he can only  handle battling against intermediate players now, and not be able to compete with master level playing members anymore? Just all seems 'too weird'.

I don't understand why staff would care to do that Mange_marsden?  Why would it be so important for members to 'think' he's still a member of the site, if he isn't anymore?

...um how could it not be him? Haha do you think someone hacked his account or something? I mean, it's possible he's letting some friend use it or something but I really doubt it; they'd prob just get their own account. Masters sometimes just play anyone who accepts their open seek, it's really not that uncommon.

His "leaving" was just him leaving the staff; that doesn't mean he can't just play on the live server at his leisure.

I'm not convinced it's him using that account. If you look at all his games before december 2012 he only played members who were rated above 2000, with many being 2100+. If you look at the games after December 2012, the opponents have ratings mainly around 1400-1800. That's a big change and a consistently big change for a lengthy  period, which makes me question who really is playing using David's account. I don't think it's him.

I also miss David. I always found him to be very personable, professional, approachable and very helpful. He was definitely an asset to chess.com. I wish him well whereever he has gone. I did notice his account has remained opened to this day.

Danny and DAvid were very enjoyable to listen to.  I've listened to quite a few live coverages, alot by GM"s, but I found these two guys very pleasureable to listen to.  I hope it was to enjoy life more and free up his time, rather than a disagreement.  I wish the best for him! :)
