Embarrassing Losses Pt. 1

This is the first time I've ever seriously tried to analyze a game. So, please don't be too caustic in your refutation of what my weak attempts. But, I do like feedback! I would love to learn from your experience.

This is a game that I feel I should have won, but, predictably, I lost it. I hope that something about this is instructive for you, just as it was for me. I have at least tried to be entertaining.

(The picture connected with this post has nothing to do with its content. That's my fiance, and I figure that more people will read a blog post with a picture of a cute girl than a post with a picture of frumpy me.)

Me too I think you were doing okay, you missed a good king pawn fork, and also a pawn thru that. Like the other person said you too could have gotten a queen. I don't quit unless it is clear cut that you are going to lose, unless you saw that far in advance to see yourself losing, but then I would question missing the fork and free pawn. Hang in there to the end you never know if they may make a redeeming mistake too.

I think you were doing ok until the 27 move, but even to the end before resigning I think you had a chance to get your queen too. I would of held out a little longer.

i agree about move 19.  you had just taken the half open c-file, but then you gave it up for no good reason.

earlier, i thought you underestimated the power of a queen in the middle (white's.  at move 6 or so).  however, it was quickly traded away, after which i thought black had advantage.  no big deal.  the game got lost in the middle, and then, towards the end, as you pointed out, when you simplified instead of conserved.

    Ok,here we go.

20....g6?! I don't think this does anything important, except weaken black on his dark squares

21.h3?loses time, although it might be usedul in the future

21...Kg7 Hmmmm...I REALLY think you should be pushing your e pawn by now!

22...Rc8 I think Ne4 would be good, since if f3 the N might be able to go to g3.(f3 also locks the B in)

24.c4?! too early, black is threatening e5!,so 24.Re5!might have been more "on topic"Re5 also attacks d5,making c4 more effective

    24...Rf7?what the hell?I swear there's a free pawn on e6!

25.cxd5? Probally thought he could take the pawn next move,WRONG!

30...h5?!i dunno if white can lock black down with h4.

33...Rf4! Black wants to create a position with 1 pair of rooks and pawns on the same side,Rf4,which forces a trade of rooks ,is good

34...gxf4?!  e6 and maybe f4  can become targets .h5 is already a targets. Now white wants to trade rooks, because there are too many holes

    38....Rg7?  See last note

39.Kc3 White should be winning now

    41 a5! creating weaknesses

41...a6? locks blacks pawns and makes b7 weak

42.b4?! white can win already with Kc5 and win the b7 and a6 pawns

LYCAN148, thanks for your helpful comments. The point at which I find myself most enthusiastically echoing your sentiments is at move 13, about which you noted the (actually quite elementary) idea of how trading queens affects the very rubric of analyzation...no longer can we consider exposed kings as weaknesses, for example.

Also, your analysis of move 19 is, I think, spot on. White was silly to trade his awesome knight for my puny bishop, and I was unwise to take back with my rook.

    Cheers, mate!

    Ok,here are my comments

6.b3  Never seen this before, only prupose of this move is a future Ba3,but that is impossible. This also may give black a target with a5-a4

    7Bxd4 Ugly,but forced

    10...Bb4!Nice move

    12...Bxc3 Um...i'll just say i agree,Bc5 was better

13....Qxc3+Sorry,but if you want to take advantage of the king, then trading off Qs doesn't help, infact after white takesa the Q,whites king is better than yours

    14...f6?!eliminates the weak e5 pawn,maybe b6 was better

    15...Nxf6?gxf6 was better,now black has a weak e6 pawn,a weak e5 square,and a possible path for the king to invade with Kd4-e5-d6

19.Nxd7?getting rip of thee emmbrassing bishop for the MONSTER on e5,what was he thinking?

19....Rxd7?!Nxd7 was better, attacking the f2 pawn and prepareing for e5,getting rid of that annoying pawn

Thats all for now,i'll be back tomorrow
