My opponent for the first round was rated near 1300 but hadn't played a tournament game in 20 years. This being my first tournament, I was unrated. My strategy going in was just to develop as quickly and completely as possible. I figured the more active my pieces the better chances I had. Here's the game.
Not a particularly pretty or exciting game but the first round win was just what I needed. It took a lot of the pressure off.
@Dr Cris, ... or we will be on the receiving end of "disaster" - LOL. How about a Dan Heisman phrase which indicates "striving", "practicing", or something like that?
Dacster helps me read the books since I have trouble understanding. He explains when I don't understand e examples. And it's the last chapter in the World's best amateur game book. We better be the ones striking disaster though! Haha. Not have disaster striking us although I AM on the team.... One of these days, though, I'm going to surprise everyone, most of all me!
@dacster13, good idea, naming the team after a Dan Heisman book, chapter, or key phrase will be very apropos :-)
hey hreed thanks for the welcome. Anyway, how about "Disaster Strikes" as the team name? Dr_cris_angel and I, were going through a Dan Heisman book yesterday and that was the name of one of the chapters or game I think.
Hi @Dacster, welcome! @JagdeepSingh, "Just for fun crew" is a good name :-)
Nice to see you Dacster13. :). Since we have alraedy have enough to form a Team, what needs to be done.
My suggestion for the team name is "Just for Fun Crew" ........ maybe someone can come up with a better name.
Ok, I just signed up in the Swiss #5 sign up forum... If you folks would like me on your team, I'm available, since this won't start until my Quad is complete.
@JagdeepSingh, thank you for your vote of confidence. I will do my best for the team. Where do I need to sign up? Maybe the team name could be something simple like "Kat's Krew"? (A play on the word 'crew')
hreed, we both are in Quad 37. :)
I would certainly like you to be in the team.
@katnv414, @jagdeepSingh... @Dr Cris is right, she pointed out that Swiss 5 starts after my Quad 37 ends, so I think I could have time to be on the team. If @Dr Cris has recruited @Dacster13 then maybe I could be an alternate? He has a good rating which will help the team, plus my work schedule is crushing, so my performance may be inconsistent. Ask JagdeepSingh :-). If this sounds ok. Then what do I need to do next?
I think Harvey said he COULD join since this is scheduled after his quad ends. I thought of a name but it's not good... We could always be the white knights...the good guys. Or.... I'll have to wrack my tired brain to come up with something better.
Sorry guys. I've been a bit busy. Yes Dr_Cris I think your friend would be great. We could use two more people as well. All of us have to check in on the Slow Swiss #5 site first ti be approved before we reigister the team. and WE NEED A NAME!!!!
Tis why I'm asking. ;). And yes he has the time for slow chess.
All he need to do to be eligble is to join DHLC. BTW have you talked to him? Does he have time for 2-3 hours live chess? These are important questions. The most important, does Katrine approve of this? :)
Dacster13, look on my friend list. Quite good.
Who is he? Anyway, no problem with me. Ratings does not matter. :)
A friend of mine would like to join and he's quite good. He's been helping me a lot. Anyone object? His tactics score is over 2000.
How do we go about getting a fourth (and maybe a fifth as well?).
